The Freedom of Information Act is so important, it is celebrated annually. James Madison, 4th president of the United States, is thought of as the Father of the Constitution and laid the groundwork for ensuring our government is as open and transparent as it is today. This means when you want to know what our government knows, you have access to that information (unless it falls under an exemption, such as for national security or law enforcement). For example, are you curious about what the government knows about UFOs? Because of the FOIA, you have access to that information. The CIA, the FBI, and the NSA have all been forced to post online frequently requested records.
No fake news when you read primary documents for yourself. Happy Freedom of Information day! |
